Material & Clay

The teapot is made from 本山绿 (běn shān lǜ), a rare and highly regarded Yixing clay variety. The surface shows a 梨皮 (lí pí, “pear-skin”) texture, meaning a slightly speckled and sandy appearance that collectors value for its natural character and tactile feel. This type of clay is considered collector’s grade material.

Design & Shape

*Dragon Elements

The spout and handle are both sculpted as dragons, but done in a restrained, elegant way rather than overly aggressive or ornate.

The spout forms the dragon’s head—slightly lifted, as if exhaling the tea—while the handle curves into the body of the dragon, completing the motion. Together, they create a sense of quiet movement wrapping around the teapot.

In traditional symbolism, dragons represent power, protection, and flow—making them especially fitting for a teapot, where water and energy are constantly in motion. Here, that symbolism is expressed with subtlety, not dominance.

*Hand-Painted Artwork

In contrast to the sculptural dragons, the body features a delicate hand-painted bird perched on a branch. The brushwork is soft and restrained, creating a peaceful, natural scene.

This contrast is what makes the piece special—

the strength of the dragon balanced by the calm of nature.

The teapot’s flat and wide shape makes it ideal for brewing teas that benefit from quick heat release, such as oolongs or aged sheng puerh.
