Laobanzhang, tucked deep in Menghai County, Yunnan, is known for producing teas with overwhelming power (霸气 baqi). The altitude, ancient trees, and mineral-rich soil create a tea that’s not just tasted — it’s felt.
I want to be honest about the flavor:When brewed the traditional local way — 7.5g in a 100ml gaiwan — the tea can taste quite bitter to people unfamiliar with its strength.But that’s exactly how the locals drink it — they want that strong, bold punch.
If you prefer a more balanced experience, I personally recommend using around 4.5g instead. At that ratio, you’ll still feel the energy and experience the rich layers of flavor, but with a softer, sweeter entry.

Availability
Authentic Laobanzhang gushu is extremely rare and commands high prices, even within China. This year, we were able to secure a small amount at a better rate than usual, though the tea remains a high-end, limited offering.
