Star anise is the dried fruit of a small evergreen tree native to southern China and shaped like an eight-pointed star.Star anise is one of the five spices used in Chinese Five Spice blends.It made its appearance in Europe in the late sixteenth century where it gained a brief popularity as an addition to teas, fruit conserves and as an aromatic in French anisette liqueurs.
