Bi Lo Chun originates from the west side of the Dong Ting Mountains in Jiang Su province, China. The area provides an ideal environment of mist and clouds year-round for tea trees, harvested only once a year in early spring. The name comes from a 17th-century Emperor who noted the spiral-shaped leaves resemble tiny snail shells.
According to the manufacturer:
Biluochun from Wing Hop Fung is selected from the original Dongting Mountain (Taihu Lake) growing region. It is made from early spring tea leaves picked before Grain Rain, carefully crafted by professional tea makers. Over Taihu Lake, rising water vapor creates lingering mist and humid air, while the slightly acidic, loose soil is ideal for tea trees. Interplanting with fruit trees gives Biluochun its unique floral fragrance.
Tasting notes: Sweet, fruity, and floral aroma; light yellowish-green soup color with floating fuzz. Store in airtight, opaque packaging in a cool, dry place. Shelf life: 18 months.
