The dark oolongs from Wuyishan are known as “rock tea” because of the granular soil the teas grow in, often deep in crevices with only indirect light available. This “unique terroir” contributes to the genetic qualities of the leaves and, combined with the centuries-old processing technique developed in that region, produces legendary oolongs with aroma nuances of dried stone fruits like apricot or plum.
Rou Gui literally translates to Cinnamon Bark, alluding to the slightly spicy-sweet aroma of this oolong that many equate with cinnamon.
