Description
Bodegas Valdemar, a family winery founded in 1889 and now led by the fifth generation, the Martinez Bujanda siblings. Their holdings span all 3 subregions of Rioja (Alta, Alaves, Baja), as well as here in the United States (Columbia Valley, Washington). Edicion Limitada is made from hand picked fruit from the family’s top plots, with a makeup of primarily Tempranillo (~80-90%) with small inclusions of Graciano and Maturana. The wine is first fermented in oak, followed by aging for ~25mo in an approximate 60/40 mix of French and American oak barrels, allowing for a gentle integration of both richness and spice. On the nose this wine offers darker more intense fruits, cassis, blackberry, dark plums, as well as spicier profile, fennel, clove, tobacco, cedar. This wine offers a full-bodied mouthfeel, while retaining freshness and vigor. This would pair beautifully with duck confit, or rich lamb stew, or even a mushroom risotto.
