Description
Frog’s Leap Winery founded in 1981 by winemaker John Williams, one of Napa’s winemakers championing both organic and dry farming. Based in Rutherford, the estate is known for wines of restraint and balance, oft times with a slightly lower alcohol than typical Napa wines, reflecting Williams’ focus on terroir transparency. Their Shale and Stone Chardonnay is an example of the sheer power that Carneros has to offer, marrying frehsness, fruit, with a serious mineral character. the fruit is hand harvested in multiple passes to pick at varying levels of ripeness, adding complexity, it is then fermented in new French oak barrels, before being transferred to concrete tanks. The wine offers intense stone fruit, juicy ripe yellow peaches, with mineral and matchstick aromas. Pair this with crab cakes, oysters, or clam chowder.
