Craftsmanship to accompany your tasting
This stoneware chawan features the traditional “Ame” glaze (pronounced ah-may), a deep brown enamel used in Japan for over 800 years. Its name, meaning “candy,” evokes the amber color of traditional Japanese sweets. Every piece is unique, featuring hand-painted brushwork that creates a striking contrast and highlights the elegance of the glaze. Its traditional circular shape is perfectly suited for preparing and enjoying matcha tea.
A ceremonial bowl for matcha preparation
Matcha is a green tea whose leaves have been ground into a very fine powder. Therefore, it is not infused but whisked using a bamboo whisk, a bowl, and a spatula. To enjoy the full creaminess and sweetness of matcha, it should be consumed immediately after preparation.
- Place 2 scoops (equivalent to one level teaspoon) of Matcha into the bowl.
- Pour 1.7 fl oz of water heated to 160°F over the powder.
- Holding the bowl with one hand, whisk the matcha using a bamboo whisk with a brisk, zigzag motion (forming a “W” at the bottom of the bowl) until a smooth froth forms.
Your matcha is ready to enjoy! To make a matcha latte, simply add 3 fl oz of milk (dairy or plant-based), previously frothed with an electric whisk.
