Description
Domaine Trapet family has been making wine for 7 generations and they have grown and expanded their estate holdings, and winemaking expertise over that time growing to be one of the most important families in the region of Gevrey-Chambertin, the Trapet family is to Gevrey, as the Leflaives are to Puligny. Their focus is producing terroir driven Pinots that transport you to their vineyards, all while maintaing a balance of life in those same vineyards, being Demeter Certified Biodynamic. Their “Clos Prieur” parcel was acquired in the late 1890’s making this one of their oldest holdings. The fruit undergoes whole-cluster native yeast fermentation with very gentle extraction followed by aging in mainly neurtal oak, with a small inclusion of new French Oak (~10-20%). Red berries are plentiful with aromas of cranberry, strawberry, and ripe raspberry leap out of the glass all underlined by orange zest and cedar spiciness. Wonderful quality wine of great value that delivers a medium body with supple tannins, although not as intense or mineral as their “En Ergot”, but nonetheless has a time and place to be chosen. With light past dishes featuring wild mushrooms will really highlight those oak spice and sous-bois notes that this wine has in spades, or pair with salmon to showcase the tannin and fruit profile.
