Made from Jianshui clay (江水泥), an iron-rich and mineral-dense material, this gaiwan enhances tea flavor by softening astringency and rounding out complex notes. The clay’s slight porosity allows the tea to breathe, while its heat-retaining properties ensure a stable temperature for precise infusion. With continued use, the clay naturally absorbs trace tea oils, gradually seasoning the vessel for richer, smoother, and more balanced brews over time.
