Description
【Benefits】
In traditional Chinese medicine, Poria cocos (Fu Ling) is renowned for its effects of
promoting diuresis to eliminate dampness, strengthening the spleen, and calming the mind. It effectively alleviates symptoms like edema, oliguria caused by dampness retention, poor appetite, loose stools due to spleen deficiency, and insomnia, restlessness resulting from heart-spleen disharmony. From a modern research perspective, it contains bioactive components such as Poria polysaccharides, triterpenoids (e.g., pachymic acid), and fatty acids, which have immunomodulatory, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and sedative effects, helping to enhance the body’s resistance, regulate digestive function, and improve sleep quality.

【Properties and Tastes】
Tastes sweet, bland; neutral in nature; enters the Heart, Spleen, and Kidney meridians
【Medicinal Components & Effects】
Poria cocos is rich in active components.
Poria polysaccharides are the core, exerting immunomodulatory effects by promoting the proliferation of immune cells and enhancing the body’s antiviral and antibacterial abilities.
Triterpenoids (main components: pachymic acid, dehydrotumulosic acid) have anti-inflammatory, liver-protective, and mild sedative effects, helping to relieve inflammation and calm the nervous system. Additionally, it contains dietary fiber and fatty acids, which regulate intestinal flora and promote gastrointestinal peristalsis. These components work together to eliminate dampness, strengthen the spleen, calm the mind, and maintain the body’s internal balance.
【Storage Methods】
- Store in a
cool, dry, and well-ventilated place (ideal temperature: 10–20℃, humidity below 60%), away from direct sunlight and high-humidity environments (e.g., kitchens, bathrooms) to prevent mold and insect infestation. - Use airtight containers such as sealed glass jars, vacuum-packed bags, or tin cans with rubber gaskets. After each use, seal the container immediately to avoid moisture absorption and oxidation of active components.
- Avoid storing with odorous substances (e.g., Sichuan pepper, star anise, spices) to prevent flavor tainting. Regularly check for mold spots, softening, or musty odors—discard immediately if any spoilage is found.
