Description
【Benefits】
In traditional Chinese medicine, Rehmannia glutinosa (Sheng Di Huang, Raw Rehmannia Root) is valued for its effects of
clearing heat to cool blood, nourishing yin to promote fluid production. It effectively alleviates symptoms like heat entering nutrient-blood-induced fever and macular rash, yin deficiency with internal heat-caused tidal fever and night sweats, and fluid consumption from febrile diseases leading to thirst and dry mouth. From a modern research perspective, it contains bioactive components such as Rehmannia polysaccharides, catalpol, and flavonoids, which have antioxidant, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and hepatoprotective effects, helping to regulate yin-yang balance and enhance the body’s resistance.
【Nicknames】
Raw Rehmannia Root, Fresh Rehmannia, Huai Sheng Di (Huai Raw Rehmannia), Gan Di Huang (Dry Rehmannia), Bian Di Huang (Bian Rehmannia), Di Huang Gen (Rehmannia Root)
【Properties and Tastes】
Tastes sweet, bitter; cold in nature; enters the Heart, Liver, and Kidney meridians
【Medicinal Components & Effects】
Rehmannia glutinosa is rich in active components.
Rehmannia polysaccharides are the key, exerting immunomodulatory and antioxidant effects by activating immune cells and scavenging free radicals.
Catalpol has strong hepatoprotective and anti-inflammatory properties, protecting liver cells from damage.
Flavonoids contribute to nourishing yin and promoting fluid production, relieving dryness and thirst symptoms. These components work together to clear heat, cool blood, nourish yin, and maintain the body’s metabolic and immune system health.
【Storage Methods】
- Store in a
cool, dry, and well-ventilated place (temperature 10–15℃, humidity below 60%), away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent mold, insect infestation, and softening. Its sweet and starchy texture makes it prone to moisture absorption and moth-eaten, so sealing is crucial. - Use airtight containers like glass jars or vacuum-sealed bags. After opening, seal promptly to avoid moisture absorption and oxidation of active components. Add 1–2 packs of desiccants for long-term storage.
- Avoid storing with odorous substances to prevent flavor tainting. Regularly check for mold, discoloration, or unusual odor—discard immediately if any spoilage is found.
