Description
【Benefits】
In traditional Chinese medicine, Fritillaria cirrhosa (Chuan Bei Mu) is highly valued for its effects of
clearing heat and moistening the lung, resolving phlegm and relieving cough, dissipating nodules and reducing abscesses. It effectively alleviates symptoms like dry cough with little sputum, bloody sputum due to lung heat, chronic cough caused by yin deficiency, and swollen nodules or abscesses. From a modern research perspective, it contains bioactive components such as peimine, peiminine, and fritillary saponins, which have antitussive, expectorant, anti-inflammatory, and immune-modulating effects, helping to soothe respiratory discomfort and reduce inflammatory responses.
【Nicknames】
Chuan Bei, Song Bei (Pine-scaled Fritillary), Qing Bei (Green Fritillary), Lu Bei (Stove Fritillary), Sichuan Fritillary Bulb
【Properties and Tastes】
Tastes bitter, sweet; slightly cold in nature; enters the Lung and Heart meridians
【Medicinal Components & Effects】
Fritillaria cirrhosa is rich in active components.
Peimine and peiminine are the core alkaloids, exerting strong antitussive and anti-inflammatory effects by regulating the cough center and inhibiting inflammatory factors.
Fritillary saponins promote expectoration by thinning phlegm and relaxing respiratory smooth muscles. Additionally, its polysaccharides have immune-modulating properties, helping to enhance the body’s resistance to respiratory infections. These components work together to clear lung heat, resolve phlegm, and relieve cough.
【Storage Methods】
- Store in a
cool, dry, well-ventilated, and dark place (ideal temperature: 10–15℃, humidity below 60%), away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent mold, insect infestation, or loss of potency. - Use airtight containers (e.g., sealed glass jars or vacuum-packed bags) to preserve. For long-term storage, add 1–2 packs of food-grade desiccants (silica gel) to absorb residual moisture, and replace desiccants every 2–3 months.
- Avoid storing with odorous substances (e.g., spices, herbs with strong aromas) to prevent flavor and efficacy alteration. Regularly check for mold spots, softening, or unusual odors—discard immediately if any spoilage is found.
