Description
Originally classified as a 3rd growth in the famous 1855 classification of Bordeaux, but thanks to a more recent acquisition in 1983 by Japanese liquor giant Suntory and subsequent cellar overhaul, this estate is now producing a wine of extreme value. Winemaking is led by Technical Director Matthieu Bordes, who focuses on hand harvesting, single parcel vinification, and aging in French oak (50% New) to best balance structure and elegance. All this work is notable in their finished wine, showing a gorgeous interplay of fruits and oak spices, Cassis, blackberry, cedar, graphite, and touches of tobacco. Equipped with an appropriate structure to age for 15+ years, but equally enjoyable with 5 years bottle age. Serve with roast lamb, duck confit or cassoulet.
